UEFA Europa League champions acknowledges kit sponsor as they arrive today

KUALA LUMPUR: UEFA Europa League champions Sevilla FC will be eager to touch down in Malaysia today.

Sevilla’s kit during the Europe League final against Benfica last week was sponsored by the Visit Malaysia 2014 campaign.

“We had Visit Malaysia 2014 on our kit when we took on Benfica and hopefully by actually visiting Malaysia we will have another great season,” said Sevilla club president Jose Castro Carmona on the sponsorship which learnt to continue for the 2015 season.

Sevilla is scheduled to play an international club friendly Selangor at the Shah Alam Stadium on Monday (May 26, 8.45pm kick-off).

The first time the Visit Malaysia 2014 logo was see on the Spanish side kit was during the team’s 2-1 home win over Real Madrid on Mar 26 which saw Carlos Bacca find the net twice despite a Cristiano Ronaldo early goal to snatch the lead.

This year, Malaysia will celebrate its fourth Visit Malaysia Year with the theme “Celebrating 1Malaysia Truly Asia” to reflect the diversity in unity of all Malaysians.

This time around, VMY 2014 will be the biggest and grandest ever tourism celebration with hundreds of events and festivals all lined up to welcome the world and it is hoped that VMY 2014 will contribute to the Government’s target to receive 36 million tourist arrivals and RM168 billion in receipts by 2020, as outlined in the Malaysia Tourism Transformation Plan (MTTP) 2020.

Sevilla is expected to touch down at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 8.30pm today (May 23, 2014) from Bandung, Indonesia.

The team beat Pelita Bandung 4-0 in Bandung last night.
